QUARTER 3 PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECTS:
Artist Statement (DUE MARCH 9th)
TYPE a minimum of 1-page about who you are as an artist. This may be written in paragraphs, verse, rap, or stream-of-consciousness. It should be CREATIVE writing, not essay writing, and should express your literary artistry as well - show your artistic voice in the way you write the piece. You may also discuss other mediums of art that you engage in.

- Who am I as an artist?
- What types of art/photography am I passionate about and driven to master?
- What do I want to say with my artwork and photography?
- What perspectives and deeper themes/ideas do I want to convey in my work?
- What strategies will I use in my art/photography to convey these meanings?
- What is my photographic voice (my own style & vision unique to me)?
- What materials, commitments, and final products will I need to create to illustrate my ideas to my audience?
- Where do I want to go with my artwork/photography in the future and how will I achieve these goals?
Abstract Project (Due Jan. 30th)
1. Take 100 abstract/macro photos
2. Create a folder of your 10 best, edit (i-photo or photoshop) & post to website
3. Edit the photos in Photoshop
A. Edit: Adjustments - Change the color/saturation/hue of a photo and make an Andy
Worhol type poster using 4-9 variations on the same image
B. Use the Filters ToolBar to abstract the same photo in 4-9 variations: create a poster
that has all the variations in one composition
C. Create 3 compositions that use double negatives to juxtapose ideas
D. Create an abstract composition in Photoshop using shapes, colors and photoshop tools,
with no photographic images
4. "Save as" a JPEG in your FOLDER
5. Post these final compositions to your website under an "Abstract" tab
6. Email me the link to your tab: [email protected]

Dos and Don'ts
1. Shoot photos of flattering angles
2. Be a fly on the wall in a classroom, take photos of the action, not just posing
3. Shoot different people, different outfits, different contexts
4. Pay attention to lighting!!
5. Pay attention to the background
6. Crop out unnecessary background
7. Have an interesting theme/title & captions
InDesign Steps:
1. Open a Document (8.5 x 11)
2. SAVE AS the Name of your page in a NEW folder, titled YEARBOOK
3. Make 3 Layers (background, photos, text)
4. Use the rectangle frame tool to create a layout for your photos
5. Use the text tool to text boxes OR create lines, and type on a line in any direction
6. Create a title for your page - choose a nice font, size, and color
7. "Place" your photo into each frame by selecting it and choosing "place" under FILE
8. two-finger click the frame and choose "Fitting" - fit content proportionally
9. two-finger click the frame and choose "Fitting" - fit frame to content
10. Make borders around each photo (on top bar to right) - choose a color, type of line, and make each bigger than 0 pt. to create line size
11. Make captions for photos - Choose an interesting font and color
12. Make a rectangular frame for your background and drop in a photo, a color, or a gradient
13. Add some graphics to your page that fit the theme
14. Save
15. Export (under FILE) as a PDF with a title
16. Email me your PDF as an attachment, with the subject line: Yearbook
